Strauss’s Arabella Opens November 10, Starring Rachel Willis-Sørensen in Her Role Debut as Arabella, Opposite Tomasz Konieczny as Mandryka

The Met: Live in HD transmission of Arabella to be broadcast worldwide on November 22
New York, New York (October 23, 2025)—Soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen, recipient of the Met’s 2025 Beverly Sills Artist Award, makes her role debut as the title character of Strauss’s Arabella, in six performances beginning November 10. The production will be broadcast worldwide as part of The Met: Live in HD series on November 22. Opposite Willis-Sørensen in his Met role debut as Mandryka is bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny, who sang Don Pizarro in Beethoven’s Fidelio at the Met last season and will sing Kurwenal in the Met’s new production of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, directed by Yuval Sharon, later this season. Maestro Nicholas Carter takes the podium for Arabella, following his 2022 Met debut with Hamlet and performances of Peter Grimes later that year.
Soprano Louise Alder makes her highly anticipated Met debut as Zdenka. Also making her company debut is soprano Julie Roset, who sings the role of Fiakermilli. Roset was a 2022 winner of Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition. Making their Met role debuts are mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill as Adelaide, tenor Pavol Breslik as Matteo, and bass Brindley Sherratt as Waldner.
Otto Schenk’s production, with sets designed by Günther Schneider-Siemssen, costumes by Milena Canonero, and lighting by Gil Wechsler, premiered in 1983 and has not been presented by the company for more than 10 years, the last time being in 2014. .
Met Under 40
The Met’s popular young-audience program, Met Under 40, expands this season with discounted ticket options for audiences aged 40 and under in the Orchestra, Grand Tier, and Dress Circle sections for select performances. Arabella Broadcasts on Radio and Online
The matinee performance of Arabella on Saturday, November 22, will be transmitted live to movie theaters around the globe as part of The Met: Live in HD series.
The November 10 and 25 performances of Arabella will be broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on the SiriusXM app and streamed on the Met’s website, metopera.org. Audio from the November 22 performance will also be aired over The Robert K. Johnson Foundation–Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network and the Metropolitan Opera Radio on the SiriusXM app on January 31.
