Puccini’s Turandot Returns to the Met on September 23
Soprano Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha makes her company debut as Liù

New York, NY (August 15, 2025)—Franco Zeffirelli’s production of Puccini’s Turandot returns to the Met stage for 17 performances, starting September 23. Conductor Carlo Rizzi returns to the Met leading seven performances this fall. Soprano Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha makes her company debut as Liù, and soprano Angela Meade and tenor Michael Fabiano make their Met role debuts as Turandot and Calàf, respectively. Bass Vitalij Kowaljow sings the role of Timur. Soprano Rebecca Nash sings the title role for the October 18 performance.
Maestro Oksana Lyniv returns to the Met to lead ten performances in the spring, featuring two casts. Lyniv made her Met conducting debut with Turandot in 2024. Trading off in the title role are sopranos Liudmyla Monastyrska and Anna Pirozzi, the latter in her Met role debut. Tenors Brian Jagde and Roberto Alagna share the role of Calàf, with Jagde making his Met role debut. Sopranos Angel Blue and Juliana Grigoryan reprise the role of Liù. Bass-baritone John Relyea and bass Peixin Chen sing Timur, with Relyea making his Met role debut.
Turandot has appeared 366 times at the Met to date, with the current production by Franco Zeffirelli (who also designed the sets) premiering on March 12, 1987. The creative team also includes costume designers Anna Anni and Dada Saligeri, lighting designer Gil Wechsler, and choreographer Chiang Ching.
Met Under 40
The Met’s popular young-audience program, Met Under 40, expands this season, with discounted ticket options available for audiences aged 40 and under in the Orchestra, Grand Tier, and Dress Circle sections for select performances. Turandot Broadcasts on Radio and Online
The September 23 and 30, October 9, and May 23 and 29 performances of Turandot will be broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on the SiriusXM app. The September 23 and 30, October 9, and May 29 performances will also be streamed live on the Met’s website, metopera.org. The May 23 performance will be broadcast over The Robert K. Johnson Foundation–Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.
